The warm summer nights bring with it family gatherings, celebrations, and fireworks! While most of us humans love the sights and sounds of summer, most pets are not used to these things. This is a tough time of year for those pets who are fearful of the loud, inescapable noises of Mother Nature or Independence Day celebrations. The sounds trigger their nervous systems, and they can become anxious or afraid. Running away from the noise is a survival instinct. Keep a close eye on your pet during the commotion, and make sure he is wearing proper identification.
Your pet sitter knows that it takes lots of extra love and understanding to help a dog or cat who is scared and confused, especially when pet parents are away. Plan to share important information with your sitter, such as how each pet reacts to noise, where they hide, and what to do if they become destructive out of fear. It’s important to have this conversation before the first rolls of thunder or booms of fireworks are heard.
